Troubleshooting texting issues with Ting

In this article

Try these steps
Texting keeps us connected to the people who matter most, one simple message at a time.

‍It lets you reach out without needing to be available in the moment. If you’re having trouble with your texts, these steps can help you stay connected effortlessly.

Try these steps

1. Try sending a text-only message

Test with a simple text-only message (letters or numbers, no emojis, pictures, or GIFs). This will help determine if the issue is with multimedia messaging or your overall texting service.

2. Delete and re-add the contact

Manually remove the contact and add it back to ensure the number is correctly stored in your phone.

3. Check your blocked numbers

Blocked numbers could prevent you from sending or receiving texts.

iPhone
  1. Go to Settings
  2. Tap Phone.
  3. Select Blocked contacts.
Android
  1. Open your phone app.
  2. Select settings.
  3. Tap Blocked numbers.

4. Check your messaging settings

iPhone:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Tap Messages.
  3. Ensure iMessage is turned on.
  4. Tip: If you recently switched iPhones, you may need to disable iMessage on your old device.
    ‍

Android:

  1. Open the Messages app.
  2. Tap your profile picture or icon at the top right.
  3. Select Messages Settings.
  4. Tap RCS Chats.
  5. Turn RCS Chats on (if available).

Note: RCS is only available on iPhone and Google messages.

5. Confirm your phone number status

Log in to your Ting account to ensure your number is active.

6. Restart your device

Restarting your device often resolves connectivity issues.

7. Update your software

iPhone
  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Select Software Update.
Android
  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap System.
  3. Select System Update.

8. Remove and re-insert your SIM card

Take out your SIM card, wait a few seconds, and reinsert it. This performs a hard reset and refreshes your connection to the Ting mobile network.

9. Confirm you’re not roaming internationally

Ting does not support roaming outside of the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

10. Reset your network settings

Note: This will delete saved Wi-Fi and Bluetooth passwords.

iPhone
  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Select Transfer or Reset.
  4. Tap Reset.
  5. Choose Reset Network Settings.
Android
  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap System.
  3. Select Reset Options.
  4. Choose Reset Wi-Fi, Mobile & Bluetooth.
  5. Tap Reset Settings.
